,Derek first directed a Raiders of The Lost Ark inspired film at 13; real actors, sets. He went on to experimental shorts, varied footage, assisting others with projects with everything from script-writing to cinematography and acting and some silly comedy shorts as well as the intense With Intent; the film was submitted and well-received via phone conversations but passed on (Cannes, T.O. International Film Festival and Tribecca). He taught a few filmmakers over the years in varied ways also. He also co-wrote/ script-supervised the short, award-winning comedy, Airknob (available now on YT). He also produced a short thriller on S8 in '95 that L.A.'s ifilm admired (he actually synched voices to 8mm). Derek is a solid editor as well who has impressed fellow editors. (Known for self-taught methods, shots and a willingness to also fail at it.)  He also came close to using a Simon/ Garfunkel song for a short film but they were battling in court at the time. Derek also got the rights to a known Canadian bands song for any use later on. Derek also has the honour of having the first ever film shown at the HFF (Hamilton Film Festival) and although not listed was a guest two times with the HFF.
